President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he aims to speed up the pace of projects and that the cabinet is fully prepared to make the necessary adjustments. He made the remark at the inauguration ceremony of the new clock tower in Maafannu ward.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Muizzu said that he aims to build recreational areas in Male' and the atolls though the local councils under the decentralised system. He also said that, while serving as Mayor of Male' City, he had the opportunity to observe the flaws in the current decentralised system that leads to the slowdown of projects. He noted that he created a special ministry to empower local councils to resolve this issue and allow them to move forward with projects at a faster pace and fulfill the expectations of the people.
As such, President Muizzu said that all the projects that would benefit the people which were not approved while he was Mayor will be fast tracked, including the development of parking areas. He detailed the administration’s strategic plans to alleviate urban congestion, including road infrastructure development and dedicated parking facilities to enhance the city's transport efficiency. As such, he said that the government Male' City Council will be allowed to construct multi-use parking buildings, reducing traffic congestion.
Additionally, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu unveiled the administration's plan to commence the reclamation of the Fushi Dhiggaru Falhu within the next 30 days. He projected that upon successful completion, the Fushi Dhiggaru Fulhu reclamation would generate a land mass of 1,200 hectares, which is three times the cumulative area of the two phases of Hulhumale'. The ambitious project is set to be completed within eight months and is part of the administration's broader strategy to establish integrated urban centres in seven regions across the country, promoting sustainable development.
