Over 3,000 dengue cases reported so far in 2023

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that over 3,000 dengue cases have been reported so far in 2023.

HPA also stated that the number of reported cases are increasing and urged the public to take the necessary precautions. The agency detailed that the cases reported in October are higher than in September. However, the number of cases have diminished slightly in the past two weeks.

Most of the recent cases were reported from Haa Alifu Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and Raa Atoll. Overall, 3,065 cases have been reported so far this year. A total of 933 cases were reported in Male' and 2,132 cases were reported in the atolls. In addition, 250 cases were reported in September and 305 cases were reported in October.

HPA advised the public to clean or remove containers that could collect water and provide a breeding environment for mosquitos. HPA has also advised the public to use mosquito repellent and lotion, and to keep doors and windows closed during sunrise and sunset. Sick individuals are advised to cover their mouth while coughing and sneezing and avoid crowded places. The agency also advises the public to wash their hands with soap and water and seek home remedies to prevent such diseases.
