Gov't vows to review list of flat recipients

Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed has stated that the list of flat recipients published by the previous government will be reviewed based on the complaints.

Speaking at a press conference, Minister Ahmed highlighted that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had instructed the previous government to halt the allocation of the 4,000 flats under development in Hulhumale' Phase II during the transition of government. He said that the new administration is waiting for further instructions from the ACC to review the list based on the over 7,500 complaints submitted.

Additionally, Minister Ahmed criticised the previous government's process of allocating land plots in Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu, stating that the process was conducting without proper planning. He said that some of the issued land plot registries pertain to areas with no land while plots were not designated for public services.

Additionally, Minister Ahmed highlighted that plots can only be legally allocated in areas with land, questioning the validity of the allocation process. He, however, said that no changes will be made to the list of recipients of the flats and land plots, in accordance with the vow made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his campaign. He also said that the new administration has a plan for the development of Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu, which includes resolving the issues regarding the lack of plots for public services. He added that this would necessitate some changes to the allocation of land plots but assured recipients that the size of their plots will not change.

The administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih initiated the first phase of the Binveriya housing scheme, marking the first time in 30 years that land plots were made available to residents of Male'. The previous government provided over 9,000 land plots to residents of Male' under the scheme and began handing over the land plot registries in the Greater Male' Region in August.

The plots have been allocated from Hulhumale' Phase II and Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu. A total of 19,639 individuals have been deemed eligible in the final list for the Binveriyaa scheme. The previous government issued registries of around 5,400 land plots from Giraavaru Falhu, 2,200 plots from Gulhi Falhu, and 1,300 plots from Hulhumale' Phase II. However, the reclamation of Giraavaru Falhu and Gulhi Falhu has still not been completed.
