Saudi Arabia to sign trade agreement with Maldives

The Council of Ministers of Saudi Arabia has decided to sign a trade agreement with the Maldives.

During the meeting, chaired by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and attended by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, discussions were initiated between Maldivian and Saudi officials regarding the trade agreement. Negotiations concerning the signing of the agreement are currently ongoing with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Maldives, the Ministry of Economy and Planning of Saudi Arabia, and the Foreign Investment Authority. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that 15 significant decisions were made by the Council of Ministers of Saudi Arabia during the meeting.

The Maldives and Saudi Arabia have earlier held discussions on strengthening development cooperation between the two countries. The discussions were held during a meeting between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Minister of Economy and Planning of Saudi Arabia Faisal bin Fadhil Alibrahim, who attended the President's swearing-in ceremony as the special envoy of the King of Saudi Arabia.

During the meeting, President Muizzu said that he values the two countries' brotherly relations and that this government is firmly dedicated to expanding the two countries' ties. President Muizzu and Saudi Arabia's Minister of Economy and Planning held extensive discussions regarding strengthening development cooperation such as trade, investment, and economic corporations.
