MPL to complete flats within 45 days

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has revealed it is actively working to complete the MPL Hiyaa towers within the next 45 days.

MPL faced delays in finishing the corporate housing project that commenced in 2018, despite announcing various completion dates and employee move-in schedules. The MPL flats remain unoccupied, prompting concerns among the company's staff. In response, the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim, visited the towers to assess the ongoing progress and address the reasons for the delays.

Speaking to PSM News, Wajeeh attributed the setbacks to issues related to utility service connections. He expressed his commitment to engaging with the relevant companies to expedite the work. He highlighted the dedication of MPL to resolving the issues within the next 45 days, completing the development of the flats and allowing employees to move in.

Additionally, Wajeeh highlighted President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's commitment to providing affordable housing during his administration. With this in mind, He pledged to work towards improving rental conditions for the flats. He also outlined the company' intentions to undertake more housing projects for employees in the future.

The rental payment period for Hiyaa flats has been extended from 20-25 years, and rent reduction measures were implemented in August this year.

The MPL flats comprise 534 apartments, including 204 one-bedroom units and 330 three-bedroom units. Despite the delays, down payment processes have been completed, and keys to the flats have been handed over to MPL employees. The interior works for the flats are currently being carried out by the employees themselves.
