Gov't declares completion of all objectives for first four weeks

The administration has announced that all the goals outlined in the 14-week roadmap targeted for the first four weeks in office have been 100% accomplished.

At a press conference, Under Secretary for Public Policy at the President's Office Firzul Abdulla Khaleel provided a briefing on the work presently completed on the 14-week roadmap. He said that as the fourth week of the 14-week agenda nears, there are 17 goals to accomplish. He added that the roadmap contains goals that promptly support the public and initiatives that will begin immediately and continue over the next few days.

Additionally, Firzul said that the government has begun work to revise the secret bilateral agreements made by the previous government that threaten national sovereignty, as part of the roadmap. This includes the hydrographic survey agreement with India that the new administration has decided not to renew. The administration has also begun the preliminary work required to formulate and implement national heritage restoration projects, end the suspension of provisions under the Fiscal Responsibility Act, and establish a Civil Rights Office to provide prompt resolutions to civil rights cases.

As part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's policy to provide affordable housing to all citizens, the government will be reducing the amount tenants living in housing units in the atolls need to pay to own their flat. The President also announced a reduction in rent for Hiya flats and assured tenants that the government would cover the costs incurred for the finishing works of Hiya flats. The rent for Hiya flats will be reduced for seven years, with a deduction of USD259 from the current rent of USD344. In addition, the government will deduct USD13,000 from the average cost of finishing the Hiya flats. HDC has also waived USD6,500 of rent for Hiya flats.

Furthermore, Firzul shared details of the other achievements of the first four weeks of the roadmap, including the expansion of existing services for children undergoing treatment for thalassemia and the facilitation of free bone marrow transplants. The government has also announced that citizens will soon be able to undergo free medical checkups under the national health insurance scheme, Aasandha, which also now covers fertility treatment.

Moreover, the new administration has begun work to expedite the development of the new terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) for the peak tourism season next year. In addition, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs has begun efforts to facilitate free Hajj pilgrimages for 1,000 underprivileged individuals, with 50 individuals to be sent to Hajj next year. The government is also paying outstanding amounts owed to fishermen.
