Aasandha Company Limited has enacted a policy allowing doctors to prescribe specific medicine brands to patients.
Aasandha Company has sent out a circular stating that if doctors wish to prescribe a particular brand of medicine under the national health insurance scheme, they must write down instructions in the prescription that they do not wish for the medicine brand to be substituted. Therefore, in case the doctor requests that only a certain medicine be dispensed to the patient, the pharmacy shall not dispense any other medicine. The patient should also be given an explanation if the pharmacy cannot dispense the specified brand of medicine under Aasandha.
If the specified brand of medicine is not available at any pharmacy at the time, the patient is allowed to ask the doctor to change the brand. If the doctor does not prescribe a specific brand of medicine on the prescription, the pharmacy should bill the patient for the brand that was dispensed. Aasandha stated that it will begin rejecting the dispensing of medicine that was not the specified brand starting from December 17.
