Researchers under 35 to study national languages and sciences: Gov't

Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim has revealed that a team of researchers delving into national languages and related sciences will include individuals under the age of 35.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister Adam specified that the researchers must meet certain criteria, such as holding a first-degree qualification and possessing teaching experience and proficiency. He also said that a degree in Dhivehi language is not obligatory for aspiring researchers.

Additionally, Minister Adam disclosed that the initial research team would comprise 50 members and would conduct a six-month study. He said the acquired knowledge will be imparted to civil servants following the study period. He also said that the findings of the study will be documented in books, which will be published, and the knowledge disseminated in schools and public spaces.

Furthermore, Minister Adam outlined that the National College for Nationalism would introduce subjects covering Maldivian history and similar subjects. He emphasised that the college aims to shape intellects and clarified that it does not intend to confer degrees.

It marks the first establishment of a college in the Maldives solely dedicated to Maldivian nationalism and human philosophies. In addition, the government has decided to revive the National Printing Press, which has been inactive for two decades, to aid authors in easily and economically printing their books. The National Printing Press was originally initiated to support authors in the Maldives by alleviating the financial burden of book publication.
