Administration did not seek salary increases: President

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured that his administration has no plans to seek salary increases for the President, Vice President, and Ministers. He made the statement in a post on X in response to a parliamentary committee's decision to increase the salaries of the President, Vice President, and Ministers.

In his post on X, President Muizzu additionally indicated that the parliamentary committee's decision was made without consultation with the administration. He added that the compensation benefits will be donated to a social fund, such as the Children's Home Kudakudhinge Hiyaa.

Furthermore, Chief Spokesperson at the President's Office Mohamed Shahyb stated via X that such a decision was made recently by a committee with majority Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) members to sow discord and incite hatred.
