Parliament cancels cabinet approval meeting due to quorum shortfall

The Parliament of the Maldives has cancelled the scheduled meeting to decide on the approval of government cabinet members due to lack of quorum.

The parliamentary government oversight committee had initially approved all 22 ministers in the cabinet. However, the Parliament opted to refer the matter back to the committee on December 18. In response, the committee held a meeting meeting to deliberate on the report, but it had to be cancelled due to a lack of quorum, with only three members in attendance.

The initial examination by the committee had deemed all 22 ministers appointed under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's administration eligible. The committee members had unanimously approved the ministers and decided to proceed with separate votes for each individual.
