President observes minute of silence on Unity Day

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has observed a minute of silence to mark the unity displayed by Maldivians during the 2004 tsunami. The minute of silence was observed on December 26 at 0923hrs, the recorded time the Tsunami hit the Maldives in 2004.

President Muizzu was accompanied by Cabinet ministers, senior government officials, and President's Office staff in the grass field south of the President's Office, the site of the former Huravee Building. Several government employees in Male' City participated in the minute of silence in the street close to their workplaces.

The Maldives marks National Unity Day on December 26, the anniversary of the 2004 tsunami that caused the loss of many lives and widespread damage and destruction in the Maldives. President Muizzu had stated that Maldivians had chosen unity over every devastating circumstance the country faced.
