Heritage Minister calls on Maldivians to be united on various issues

Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim has stated that Maldivians must remain united in order to overcome any challenge facing the country.

Speaking at the National Unity Day function, Minister Naseer highlighted the various challenges facing the Maldives such as climate change as well as detrimental social and ideological changes. He urged citizens to learn the lessons from the 2004 tsunami disaster, which was caused by an undersea earthquake off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, thousands of miles away from the Maldives. As such, he said that citizens should be vigilant of negative outside influences shaping the culture and customs of the Maldives.

In his message on Unity Day, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan expressed concern that political divisions and inter-personnel conflicts are affecting national unity. He compared the current situation to the courage and togetherness that Maldivians showed following the aftermath of the tsunami disaster.

Additionally, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts Ibrahim Waheed said the greatest strength the country had in overcoming the tsunami disaster was the unity of the people. As such, he said that individuals should always prioritise maintaining unity in any situation.
