President emphasises importance of respecting each other's dignity

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has underscored the collective responsibility of every citizen in upholding mutual respect to protect the honor and dignity of others. He made these remarks during the official ceremony for National Unity Day 2023.

Reflecting on the enduring unity among Maldivians, President Dr. Muizzu expressed his hope for a resurgence of unity. He envisions the Maldives reestablishing familial relationships, friendships, and fraternal connections, emphasising the importance of safeguarding honor and dignity while promoting lasting compassion and empathy.

Recalling these friendly gestures, President Dr. Muizzu reminisced about the communal practices of sharing clothes, feeding the neighbours, and sweeping the neighbour's outdoor space. He highlighted the restart of the halted education system and the loss of electricity, which the President described as concerted efforts through an Islamic and nationalistic approach.

Additionally, President Dr. Muizzu emphasised that the primary message derived from the observance of National Unity Day is to reinforce our allegiance to Islam. He underscored the privilege for all citizens of having fostered unity through the shared Islamic faith and urged the preservation of these fraternal bonds at all costs. He highlighted the auspicious circumstances of Maldivians, who are united through common ideals such as shared religious beliefs and a common language and stressed the significance of such unity.

Furthermore, President Muizzu described the unity of Maldivians by highlighting the symphony in the shared letters of the Dhivehi language, the safety construed from the shared culture, the unbroken chain formed by the lineage, and the harmonious landscape painted by the beauty of the similar islands. The President stressed that these elements intricately weave us into a tapestry of unity, distinguishing us as a unique nation.
