President provided an update on the Thilamale Bridge project during a recent radio show commemorating the 61st anniversary of Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu (DRA).
President Dr. Muizzu attributed the slow pace to the leniency from the previous government, which had granted the project ample time. He disclosed the initial completion estimate ranged from late 2026 to early 2027. Despite challenges, he emphasised his commitment to expediting the project's timeline.
During a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the COP28 Summit, President Muizzu conveyed his eagerness to hasten the bridge project. He proposed collaborative efforts between the two countries to accelerate the construction process.
In exploring ways to streamline the Thilamale Bridge project, President Muizzu mentioned considering a methodology similar to the successful execution of the Sinamale Bridge. He highlighted the potential implementation of technical measures to fast-track the project, contingent on mutual agreement between the two nations.
The President acknowledged a delay of one and a half years in the Thilamale Bridge project, primarily attributable to challenges in placing structural pillars. However, he reassured that the work is now progressing at an accelerated pace. President Muizzu expressed his desire for the project's completion by 2025, noting the importance of collaborative efforts between the involved parties to achieve this goal sooner.
