President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development will finish handing over the registrations to the recipients of land plots and flats next week.
In a post on X, President Muizzu said that applicants in the final lists of land and flat recipients will receive their registration this week or the next. He noted that the reclamation work is progressing at a fast pace in areas where the plots were allocated while preparations are being made to reclaim more land in Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru Falhu.
The previous government published the final list of recipients of 4,000 flats in Hulhumale' under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme late last year. However, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) halted the allocation of the flats until it completed an investigation over complaints regarding how the list was formulated. The new administration is working with the ACC to resolve the issue.
The previous government also allocated land plots in Gulhifalhu, Giraavaru Falhu, and Hulhumale' under the Binveriya housing scheme. President Muizzu has vowed not to make alterations to the residential land plots allocated by the previous government. He also said that he plans to expand the land area being reclaimed in Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru Falhu to allocate more plots for residential housing.
