Over 42,000 vehicles registered in Male' in five years

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen has stated that more than 42,000 vehicles were registered in the Greater Male' Region alone in the past five years.

At a press conference, Minister Ameen said that efforts are being made to provide vehicle registration services through a single online portal. He also said that all government agencies are working to find solutions to the escalating problem of traffic congestion in the Greater Male' Region.

Additionally, Minister Ameen said that 69,780 vehicles were registered in the Maldives in the past five years, of which more than 42,000 are in the Greater Male' Region. He expressed concern that the problem could escalate beyond control if the number of vehicles being registered continues to increase. He added that such a higher number of vehicles should not have been registered if the government had planned to solve the issue through the relevant laws and regulations in good faith.

Furthermore, Minister Ameen said that a project will commence to seek international professional and financial assistance aimed at solving the traffic issues in Male' City. He added that he has requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to bring in experts from a country that has been successful in traffic control.
