MPL to implement changes to expedite clearance of goods for Ramadan

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has stated that it will ensure the speedy delivery of goods to businesses during the month of Ramadan.

The number of imported goods, especially food and beverage products, significantly increase during Ramadan each year. This results in delays in the clearance and delivery of goods to businesses from the Male' Commercial Harbour.

Speaking to PSM News, CEO of MPL Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim said the Male' port has a special area on the west side for goods imported from India. Typically, the area has space available for two vessels to unload goods at a time while the remaining space is used for MPL's barges, tugboats and other vessels.

However, Wajeeh said MPL vessels will be removed, and the area will only be reserved for ships carrying food to the Maldives starting next month. With the change, businesses will be able to clear goods without any difficulty during Ramadan.

Additionally, Wajeeh said that more facilities will be provided to expedite the clearance of goods during Ramadan. He added that the company will work with the government to bring a solution to the traffic-related problems, aiming to enhance convenience for businesses.
