ECM makes changes to reduce election officials

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has state that changes have been implemented to reduce the number of officials in election.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Dharubaaruge convention centre, where the commission expressed its commitment to implementing the changes in the upcoming elections.

Speaking at the press conference, Secretary General of ECM Hassan Zakariyya disclosed that administrative changes are underway to address the challenges of recruiting officials. He said that the upcoming by-elections will see more automated procedures aimed at reducing the number of officials. He also said that the changes will not only ease the burden on the budget allocated for elections but also minimise the overall need for officials.

ECM has stated that there will be no shortage of officials for the Male' City Council by-election and Male' City mayoral by-election scheduled for January 13. Despite the requirement of 550 election officials, 750 individuals have already applied for these positions.
