ECM prepares to open candidacy for parliamentary election

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has stated that it will begin accepting candidates for the parliamentary election from January 30.

Speaking to PSM News, Vice President of ECM Ismail Habeeb said the opportunity to submit candidacy forms will be open from January 30 to February 14. The numbers of the candidates will be arranged on February 16, and candidates will be allowed to campaign from February 16 to March 16.

Additionally, Habeeb highlighted that individuals are personally responsible for checking whether their information on the voters' list is valid. He said the opportunity to submit complaints regarding the voters' list is open until January 21 and the changes will be made public on January 30. The opportunity to re-register will be open from February 1 to 7 and the final voters list will be released on February 29.

Furthermore, Habeeb said that around 500-700 ballot boxes will be placed for the parliamentary election and the exact number will be determined on January 31. He also said that ECM will open the opportunity to submit applications for observers and monitors on January 31, adding that training sessions will be held in Male' and the atolls.
