China offers 1,000 scholarships to Maldivians

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed that China is offering 1,000 scholarships to Maldivians. He made the announcement during a meeting with the Maldivian community residing in Beijing.

President Muizzu met with the Maldivian community residing in Beijing during his state visit to China. The President was accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a delegation of senior government officials.

At the meeting, President expressed delight in having the pleasure of meeting locals while abroad. He engaged with the Maldivian community, predominantly composed of students, to gain insights into their experiences and challenges while residing abroad. He also underscored the significance of capitalising on the opportunities to pursue higher education in foreign countries. He also assured the local community of the administration's commitment to seeking solutions to their concerns.

Furthermore, President Muizzu said that during his visit, the government of China has offiered 1,000 scholarships to the Maldives. The scholarships will be awarded to civil service employees over five years. As such, 200 Maldivians will be given the opportunity to apply for scholarships every year.

The President and the First Lady are currently undertaking a state visit to China at the invitation of Xi Jinping, the President of China. A high-level delegation is accompanying the President and the First Lady on this visit.
