Three candidates vote in Male' mayoral by-election

Three candidates have cast their ballots in the Male' City mayoral by-election.

Adam Azim from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), independent candidate Hussain Waheed, and Aishath Azima Shakoor representing the ruling PPM/PNC coalition, have already cast their votes at 0800hrs on January 13. Independent candidate Shuaib Ali is scheduled to vote at 1100hrs, while Mohamed Saif Fathih, representing The Democrats, is set to vote at 1030hrs on the same day.

Voting for the mayoral by-election commenced at 0800hrs and will continue until 1700hrs. Alongside the mayoral by-election, elections are also taking place to elect three councilors for the Male' City Council. The position of Male’ City mayor became vacant after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu resigned to assume office in November last year.

A total of 54,680 eligible individuals have the opportunity to vote in the mayoral by-election. Candidates have urged the public to take part in the voting process, despite adverse weather conditions.
