The former presidents, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and Mohamed Nasheed, have both voted in the Male' City mayoral and Male' City Council by-elections.
Nasheed cast his vote at Aminiya School, while Yameen voted at Jamaluddin School.
Voting for the mayoral by-election commenced at 0800hrs on January 13. Alongside the mayoral by-election, elections are also taking place to elect three councilors for the Male' City Council. The position of Male’ City mayor became vacant after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu resigned to assume office in November last year.
A total of 54,680 eligible individuals have the opportunity to vote in the mayoral by-election. Candidates have urged the public to take part in the voting process, despite adverse weather conditions.
