President votes in mayoral by-election

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has voted in the Male' City mayoral and Male' City Council by-elections.

President Dr. Muizzu casted his vote at the Male' South Constituency polling station situated at the Social Centre in Male' City, following his return from China. Speaking to media outlets, he encouraged the public to promptly exercise their right to vote, emphasising the importance of not waiting until the last minute.

Voting for the mayoral by-election commenced at 0800hrs on January 13. Alongside the mayoral by-election, elections are also taking place to elect three councilors for the Male' City Council. The position of Male’ City mayor became vacant after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu resigned to assume office in November last year.

A total of 54,680 eligible individuals have the opportunity to vote in the mayoral by-election. Candidates have urged the public to take part in the voting process, despite adverse weather conditions.
