Qasim Ibrahim, the leader of Jumhooree Party (JP), has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's recent state visit to China stands out as one of the most successful visits undertaken by a Maldivian leader. He made the statement in post on social media, welcoming the President back from his visit.
In a post on X, Qasim highlighted the success of President Muizzu's visit to China, emphasising its significance as an invitation extended by President of China Xi Jinping. He also highlighted that substantial concessions in loan repayments to China would be implemented within the next five years, following the discussions held between the two countries.
Additionally, Qasim underscored the sovereignty of the Maldives, emphasising that, despite being a small nation, it is independent, and China fully respects its territorial integrity. He also highlighted the provision of USD130 million in grants by China and the signing of significant development agreements amounting to billions of dollars across various sectors.
Furthermore, Qasim noted the warm reception accorded to President Muizzu in China, emphasising that it marked the most hospitable welcome ever extended to a Maldivian leader in the country. He added that no previous Maldivian leader had accomplished such a successful visit. He also congratulated the President on behalf of JP, for his contributions to the country and the progress achieved during his visit to China.
