Male' City Council election: PNC wins 2 seats, MDP wins 1 seat

Ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has won two seats and opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) won one seat in the Male' City Council by-election.

The interim results show that PNC candidate Aminath Rishfa Ahmed won the women's seat for South Henveiru Constituency with 411 votes. PNC candidate Hassan Nizam won the seat for South Maafannu Constituency with 383 votes, and MDP candidate Ahmed Rishwan Rasheed won the seat for Central Henveiru Constituency with 320 votes.

The Male' City Council by-election was held on January 13 from 0800hrs to 1800hrs. Around 17,000 of the 54,680 eligible voters cast their ballot.

The Male' City Council by-election and Male' City Mayoral by-election were both held on January 13. The position of Male’ City mayor became vacant after President Dr. Mohamed Muazu resigned to assume office in November. Simultaneously, the three council seats became vacant as councilors resigned to take on roles in the new administration.
