Maldives affirms Palestinians right to live in prosperity, security

The Maldives has affirmed that the Palestinian people, facing inhumane attacks from Israel, possess the unequivocal right to live in security and prosperity. The statement was made by Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer while delivering the Maldives statement at the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Uganda.

In his statement, Minister Zameer highlighted that the Palestinian people, particularly those enduring the hardships of war, deserve protection and opportunities for a flourishing life. He also emphasised Maldives' commitment to assisting nations grappling with significant challenges and injustices,

Additionally, Minister Zameer underscored the determination of the Maldives to rescue the people in need from dire situations. He urged concerted efforts to aid individuals that are suffering, emphasising that the fear and vulnerability felt by individuals amid global conflicts and adversities should not be overlooked.

The NAM Summit was established in 1955 and has been a forum for discussing peace, economic development, and the liberation of nations from oppression. The 19th summit, attended by 120 member countries is currently taking place in Kampala, Uganda. The summit's theme is Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence.

The Maldives has participated in initiatives since joining NAM in 1976. The government reaffirmed its commitment to international peace and unity, expressing a dedication to addressing the world's pressing issues through collaborative efforts within the framework of NAM.
