US discusses strengthening Maldives' military capacity

The United States (US) has expressed its commitment to providing assistance in strengthening the military capacity building of the Maldives. The discussions were held during a meeting between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command, Admiral John Aquilino.

During the meeting, the Commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command congratulated President Muizzu on his assumption of office and remarked on the longstanding relationship between the Maldives and the United States. In turn, the President expressed his appreciation for the United States in aiding the Maldives in capacity building by providing training opportunities for Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) personnel.

In response, Commander Admiral John Aquilino reiterated his commitment to full assistance in strengthening capacity building in the defence force. He also affirmed their support for the Maldives in maintaining peace and security while preserving its sovereignty and expressed interest in exploring new areas of cooperation.
