First senior citizen centre to be opened in February

Ministry of Social and Family Development has announced the opening of the first social centre for senior citizens scheduled for February. The centres are integral to the Week 14 roadmap and aim to address the healthcare and various needs of the elderly.

Speaking to PSM News, Social Services Coordinator at the Ministry of Social and Family Development Abdulla Ashraf highlighted the significant role played by senior citizens in societal development. As such, he expressed that the centres are conceived to honor and provide a comfortable setting for them.

Additionally, Ashraf said that the centres are designed not only to safeguard the mental and social well-being of senior citizens but also to establish a secure and welcoming space for them to interact. He said that the first centre is under development at the old Centre for Holy Quran premises in Male' City, with plans for its opening in February.

In addition to these initiatives, the government has made the decision to enhance senior citizens' access to specialised healthcare services. The move is part of a broader effort to cater to the well-being of the elderly population, aligning with the establishment of dedicated social centres.
