Gov't opens opportunity to establish nature parks, biosphere reserves

The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy has opened the opportunity for islands and atolls to express their interest in establishing nature parks and biosphere reserves.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's manifesto includes a policy to designate three more areas as biosphere reserves by 2028 and establish at least one nature park in each atoll.

The environment ministry is now accepting expressions of interest from islands wishing to establish a nature park and atolls wishing to establish a biosphere reserve. The form, which is available at the ministry's website, need to be submitted by February 15 via email or to the ministry's reception.
