Gov't to return 16 from Guraidhoo special needs home to families

The Ministry of Social and Family Development has revealed plans to return 16 individuals from the special needs home in Guraidhoo, Kaafu Atoll, with their families in February.

Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Minister Aminath Ismail expressed the ministry's objective to reduce the number of individuals residing in the Guraidhoo special needs home, with a focus on facilitating the return of those already present to their respective families. She added that the ongoing process involves the transfer of 16 individuals to their families, accompanied by a reintegration plan. She also said that each individual has a personalised reintegration strategy and collaborative efforts with families are underway to implement these plans.

Furthermore, Deputy Minister Aminath emphasised that even after the individuals are returned to their families, a monitoring mechanism will be in place to observe their progress for a specific period. She also said that the ministry remains committed to providing ongoing assistance and support to the families involved.

Currently, the special needs home in Guraidhoo accommodates 218 individuals, with a dedicated workforce of 165 employees serving the community.
