France discusses easing travel to Europe for Maldives

France has held discussions to ease travel to Europe for Maldivians. The discussions were held during a meeting between Ambassador of France to the Maldives Jean-François Pactet and Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Zameer welcomed Ambassador Pactet and reflected upon the close and friendly relations that exists between the Maldives and France and discussed on further strengthening the existing cooperation in areas of mutual concern. They further exchanged views on a wide range of issues, including economic development, climate change and adaptation, security cooperation, increasing people to people contact, easing travel for Maldivians to travel to Europe and reducing the tariffs placed on Maldives fish products.

Discussions also focused on multilateral cooperation between both countries on issues relating to small island developing states, oceans and biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction. Minister Zameer conveyed the readiness of the Maldives to work together with France on shared priorities. Ambassador Pactet assured of his willingness and commitment to work with the Maldives to strengthen cooperation between two countries.
