Fenaka Corporation Limited has stated that power has been restored in Fuvahmulah City.
Fuvahmulah City experienced a power outage on January 24 after the 500kW generator in the powerhouse was damaged. However, power was restored in all parts of the city within a few hours, except in one area with 150 households due to a damaged transformer, which has now been fixed.
The damaged 500kW generator has been replaced by a 1,000kW generator. However, the capacity of the powerhouse has been diminished due to the incident. Fenaka Corporation stated it has prioritised procuring a 1,200kW generator for Fuvahmulah to cater for the upcoming month of Ramadan and hot weather.
Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of Fenaka Muaz Mohamed Rasheed said that the 800kW generator in the powerhouse is facing issues and that it will be replaced by an 800kW generator from Gahdhoo. He noted that bringing a generator from abroad would take too long. In addition, a 1,200kW generator is also being transported to Fuvahmulah, which will solve the electricity issues in the city.
The peak load in Fuvahmulah City has been recorded as 4,850kW, with an average maximum load of 4,050kW. Fenaka stated that all seven generators in the powerhouse are being used to power the city, which are two 800kW generators, three 1,200kW generators, one 600kW generator, and one 1,000kW generator. The damage to an 800kW generator has reduced the capacity of the powerhouse to 4,000kW.
