The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will be announcing its decision this week on the suspension of flats allocation under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme.
Last November, ACC ordered the previous government to suspend its work to allocate the flats after public outrage rose over alleged corruption in how applicants were chosen for the final list of recipients. The allocation of 4,000 flats under the Gedhoruveriya scheme has since been halted until the ACC completes its investigation into the complaints. The new administration is working with the ACC to resolve the issue and Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) stated that it will begin signing the agreements with flat recipients within a few days after the investigation is completed.
The ACC stated that it will be providing information as it continues the investigation. The commission has already provided some information to the parliamentary committee on independent institutions. During the committee meeting, the ACC stated that the points automatically awarded to applicants had been altered through the portal. In addition, the previous government had failed to confirm the information given and some applicants received more points by inserting false information, sch as claiming they have children or were living in Male'.
