President decides to establish Fishermen's Co-operative Society

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to establish Fishermen's Co-operative Society. He made the decision following the Cabinet's deliberations on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources.

The decision aligns with the administration’s 14-week roadmap and aims to increase fishermen's participation in MIFCO’s operations. The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources will make an imminent announcement for interested candidates to apply for the position. The President will then select a representative to the MIFCO Board from eligible applicants who expressed interest in the public announcement.

Following the Cabinet discussions, President Muizzu also directed the preparation of a roadmap to establish a Fishermen's Co-operative Society. This roadmap will draw upon the experiences of other countries, relevant research, and expert opinions to create a suitable model for fishermen across the country.
