Maldives and China discuss establishment of conservation lab

The Maldives and China has held discussions regarding the establishment of a conservation laboratory aimed at preserving and safeguarding the cultural heritage of the Maldives.

The bilateral ties between the two nations have seen a notable enhancement, particularly following the visit of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to China. In light of this, China has expressed interest in extending additional cultural assistance to the Maldives. Ambassador Wang Lixin of China, during a courtesy call on Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim, explored various avenues of collaboration and addressed the specific needs of the Maldives.

During the meeting , Minister Naseer highlighted the deterioration of certain elements of Maldivian heritage due to the absence of a dedicated conservation laboratory. Ambassador Lixin endorsed the proposal to submit the necessary documentation for the establishment of such a facility.

Additionally, the meeting delved into discussions about a potential agreement between the Maldives and China concerning the translation and publication of classical texts from both nations. Notably, there was a shared commitment to cooperation and support from China in the renovation of the museum building and the overall development of the museum.

Furthermore, Minister Naseer pointed out the increasing number of school students and the general public visiting the museum, attributing the trend to the increased awareness of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's vision for cultural heritage. The meeting concluded with both leaders expressing their commitment to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the Maldives and China.
