President to deliver Presidential Address on February 5

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will deliver his inaugural Presidential Address on February 5.

The Presidential Address is mandated to be delivered by the president in accordance with Article 84 of the Constitution of the Maldives. The purpose of the Presidential Address is to state the current situation of the nation and areas which need to be addressed to resolve the issues faced by the country.

Traditionally marking the commencement of the parliamentary year, this year's opening session is slated to commence at 0900hrs. The first session of the Parliament in 2024 will begin with the annual Presidential Address delivered by President Muizzu. It will be followed by the formal proceedings of the Parliament in the subsequent sittings.

President Dr. Muizzu, in his first Presidential Address, will highlight the government's policies for advancing the development of the Maldives. While past years have observed this day as a public holiday, the President has declared not to declare it as such this time.
