The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has expelled Parliamentarian Abdulla Jabir from the party.
In a statement, MDP said that the decision comes as a response to Jabir's repeated transgressions against societal norms, including his use of vulgar language in public discourse and engagement in behaviors detrimental to the welfare of the populace. MDP stated expulsion is deemed necessary in safeguarding the integrity of the party and the well-being of its members.
Additionally, MDP has revoked Jabir's eligibility to run in the upcoming parliamentary election under the party ticket. The statement further noted that Jabir has requested to rejoin MDP but the request will have to be submitted to the party's National Assembly for consideration. MDP also decided not to allow Jabir to contest any party post or primary for the next five years if he is allowed to rejoin the party.
