President seeks Parliament approval for three ministers

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has submitted a request to the Parliament seeking approval for the re-appointment of three ministers to the Cabinet.

President Dr. Muizzu re-appointed Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed as Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed as Minister of Housing Land and Urban Development, and Ahmed Usham as Deputy Attorney General on January 29. The appointments come after the initial rejection of the ministers by the Parliament.

During the first attempt to approve the ministers, opposition parliamentarians voted against Shaheem, Haidar, and Usham. It marked the first instance of a government having its initial cabinet members rejected by the Parliament. The rejection has sparked significant criticism from opposition members and parties.
