President meets Buruni Island Council and WDC

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has met with the Island Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) of Buruni,Thaa Atoll at the Buruni School. Council members took the opportunity to communicate the most pressing concerns and needs of the island community to the President.

During the meeting, council members highlighted challenges arising from the pause in the harbor upgrade and water network projects, affecting the community. Additionally, they emphasised the island school's additional needs and the difficulties posed by space constraints at the Council Secretariat.

Expressing their developmental aspirations, council members advocated for the development of housing units, a children's park, ATM services, and a sports fishing buoy for recreational activities.

The Buruni WDC also brought forward requests, seeking a Ramadan allowance and maternity leave for WDC members.

President Dr. Muizzu, in response, assured the council of his commitment to restarting halted projects. He highlighted the government's initiatives to boost revenue for state-owned enterprises (SOEs). Moreover, he discussed the administration's plans to include uninhabited islands under the jurisdiction of the nearest inhabited islands and encouraged small and medium-level projects to be conducted through the councils.

The President also briefed the council on the administration's upcoming housing loan plans.
