Thimarafushi Council assures gov't of cooperation

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has met with the Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) of Thimarafushi, with the meeting held at the Thaa Atoll Council Office.

During the meeting, the Island Council reiterated its commitment to wholeheartedly support government initiatives aimed at fulfilling the developmental requirements of the island. Noting the pressing needs of the residents, the council highlighted key priority projects, notably the urgent repair of the harbor and the construction of a seawall. Furthermore, the council conveyed the necessity of establishing a hospital on the island, ensuring access to essential services in the vicinity of completed housing units, and fostering growth in the sports sector.

In addition, the WDC shared their concerns and perspectives to President Dr. Muizzu during the meeting.

Addressing these issues, President Muizzu affirmed the government's dedication to facilitating positive change. He pledged to explore possibilities within the existing legal framework, expressing the intention to amend relevant laws to address the concerns raised by the WDC. Additionally, the President committed to collaborating with pertinent institutions to devise effective solutions for the challenges brought forth by the Island Council, demonstrating the administration's proactive approach to local development and community welfare.
