Nationalism to be taught in schools next academic year: President

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the inclusion of Nationalism as a subject in all schools for the upcoming academic year. He made the announcement during the "Raees ge Javaab" series, which facilitates direct public interaction with the President on diverse issues.

During the series, Principal of Maavashu School in Laamu Atoll, Zulaikha Rafeeu, raised concerns with President Dr. Muizzu regarding the implementation timeline for teaching Nationalism in schools within Laamu Atoll under the government's education policy. In response, the President stated that Nationalism is currently undergoing pilot phases in select schools. He assured that upon completion of the initiatives, the subject will be incorporated into the curriculum of all schools for the next academic year.

Nationalism is a component of President Dr. Muizzu's pledge to cultivate patriotism and appreciation for Maldivian culture among youth and has been initiated as a pilot programme for fourth-grade students in 11 schools across the Maldives. The trial period also aims to evaluate the subject before its full integration into the education system.

The curriculum for the Nationalism subject is structured across different educational stages, ensuring its inclusion in all subjects and grade levels. The aim of the subject is to nurture a sense of national pride and attachment to the country among students, fostering a generation deeply connected to their Maldivian identity.
