Ihavandhoo road development project begins

Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure has announced the commencement of the project to develop the major roads of Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll.

The project was inaugurated by Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib and Managing Director of the Road Development Corporation (RDC) Brigadier General (retd) Ali Zuhair.

The project was awarded to RDC in April 2022 and involves the development of major roads in Ihavandhoo. RDC stated that fieldwork will commence after the necessary surveys and design work are completed.

The scope of the project includes paving and modernising 15 roads, incorporating contemporary drainage systems. In addition, repair and relocation of pipes and cables buried under the roads will be conducted separately. Road signs and street lights will be installed upon completion. The objective is to finish paving of all roads within six months. The project has been contracted to RDC at a cost of USD 6.6 million.

Ihavandhoo is the second-largest island in the atoll with a population of approximately 3,000 residents. It stands to benefit significantly from improved road conditions, fulfilling a government commitment to enhance infrastructure across the island.
