President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has launched "Riveli," a specially designed online programme aimed at revitalising the Maldivian nationalistic identity by incorporating Dhivehi language and Islamic studies for the education of Maldivians residing abroad. He inaugurated the programme during his meeting with the Maldivian community in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as part of his ongoing visit to the UAE to attend World Governments Summit 2024.
The launch of the programme was initially announced during the President's visit to Dubai for the COP-28 Summit in November of last year. Emphasising the government's primary policy of reviving nationalism, the President stated that the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage would collaborate with embassies and consulates to plan and execute activities fostering love for Dhivehi language and Islam among Maldivians living abroad.
President revealed his intention to incorporate religious education concerning Islam alongside Dhivehi language instruction. The programme aims to educate children about Islam, instilling in them the beautiful principles of the faith and fostering a strong religious foundation.
During the meeting with the Maldivian community, the President also inquired about their well-being, challenges, and concerns.
The initiative is set to extend its reach to Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia. Additionally, the programme will be expanded to cater to Maldivians residing in other countries, considering the time zones of the respective regions.
