Installation of more elevators in Hiyaa flats can be completed in a year

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced plans to address the elevator shortage in Hiyaa towers by completing the installation of elevators within a year.

In response to the residents' concerns regarding elevator availability in Hiyaa flats, HDC is set to increase the number of elevators in the towers. An agreement has been reached with Shenyang Yuanda Intellectual Industry Group Company Limited to install 32 new elevators, including a stretcher or patient elevator and a 14-seater elevator. The installation process has already commenced and is expected to be finished within the next twelve months.

The construction of the 25-storey Hiyaa towers, undertaken during the tenure of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, highlighted the mismatch between the existing elevator capacity and the growing resident population. To further address housing concerns, the government has also decided to reduce the rent of Hiyaa flats over a seven-year period. The monthly rent for Hiyaa flats has been changed to USD259.
