USD97,300 to be spent on repair of Addu mosques

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has announced plans to allocate USD97,300 from the Mosque Fund towards the renovation of mosques in Addu City this year.

In a post on X, Minister Shaheem disclosed that 68 mosques across Addu will undergo repairs, facilitated by the Addu City Council. He also revealed that efforts to construct an Islamic center in Addu are underway, with completion targeted for May 2025.

Construction on the Islamic Center commenced in July last year, boasting amenities such as a 1500-seat prayer hall, a 450-seat multipurpose hall, classrooms, seminar rooms, administrative offices, and a library.

The government has emphasised the importance of sustainably maintaining mosques across the nation, with the Islamic ministry announcing similar projects slated for various regions throughout the year.
