Addu Bridge Project to start after completing survey: Gov't

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has announced that the preliminary design and survey work for the bridge project linking Hithadhoo to Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo in Addu City will be completed within three months, with the project set to commence this year. He made the remarks during a signing ceremony to assign the survey and preliminary design work of the bridge to The Arab Contractors, an Egypt-based company.

The agreement, signed between Minister Muththalib and Heba Abu AlEl, Engineer at The Arab Contractors, marks a significant step forward in the project. Speaking at the gathering Minister Muththalib emphasised the importance of the endeavor, stating that the Addu City bridge will span at least 14km.

Additionally, Minister Muththalib mentioned the initial interest from various parties, including major Chinese companies, when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu first announced the bridge project. He said that despite multiple expressions of interest, the decision to award the project to The Arab Contractors was based on its commitment to completing the entire project. Moreover, he highlighted that the survey will be conducted at no cost.

Furthermore, Minister Muththalib underscored the collaborative nature of the project, stating that consultations with the Addu City Council and residents will be integral to its execution. He expressed optimism that the bridge will not only bring progress and development to Addu City but also facilitate connectivity for residents of other atolls, fostering the further development of Hulhumeedhoo.
