President commits to addressing development needs in Faresmaathoda

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed his commitment to fulfilling the request of the people of Faresmaathoda by reclaiming island land. This announcement was made during his meeting with the residents of Faresmaathoda as part of his visit to Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

The President acknowledged the various development needs of the island, with a primary focus on addressing the housing problem. He assured that the housing issue in Faresmaathoda would be resolved through the reclamation of land for housing and economic activities, with allocated funds for dredging included in the budget.

Highlighting Faresmaathoda's status as a fishing island, the President emphasised the modernisation of the island's harbor, including the construction of a slipway for fishermen. A team from the relevant ministry is set to arrive soon for a comprehensive study, ensuring the project aligns with the consent of the local community and fishermen.

Furthermore, the President outlined the government's plans to enhance electricity services, pave the main roads, improve healthcare quality, and address the shortage of school space on the island.

Faresmaathoda, spanning 44 hectares, is home to a population of over 2,000.
