Public Service Media (PSM) has kicked off debate for candidates contesting in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Held in the auditorium of the Maldives National University (MNU), the debate features candidates for the parliamentary elections, with separate sessions for each of the 93 constituencies in the 20th Parliament. All candidates have been invited by PSM to participate.
Following the order designated by the Election Commission of Maldives (ECM), the parliamentary debate began with Central Henveiru constituency. Out of the 5 candidates in the election, 3 took part in the debate, which is being broadcast on Yes TV. The debate will run daily until March 09.
The Parliamentary Debate serves as a platform for candidates to introduce themselves and articulate their vision for their respective constituencies. What sets the debate apart is its interactive nature, allowing citizens the opportunity to pose questions directly to the candidates, thereby fostering greater engagement and transparency in the electoral process. The option to submit inquiries via SMS still open.
Another significant modification is the decision to host debates in the most populous areas, including Kulhudhuffushi City, Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Fuvahmulah City, and Addu City.
Individuals can simply send their questions to 300, following the format: {MB (space) (constituency name) (question)}. The most compelling questions received will be posed to the candidates during the debate, ensuring that citizen voices are heard and pertinent issues are addressed on a national platform.
