President commits to develop resort in Kelaa lagoon

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to develop a resort in the lagoon of Kelaa and initiate an agricultural project on the island.

During his visit to Haa Alifu Atoll, the President addressed a gathering with the people of Kelaa and met with the Kelaa Island Council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC).

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu expressed that Kelaa has untapped potential for expanding tourism. He assured the implementation of a major tourism project in the lagoon of Kelaa, providing employment opportunities for the youth in the region.

Highlighting Kelaa's status as a farming island, the President pledged to implement a program aimed at expanding agriculture on the island. The government's overarching policy to boost the production of local crops and ensure food security was emphasised, with a commitment to establishing systems that supply local products to the resorts from the islands.

The President underscored the government's special priority to expedite stalled projects in Kelaa, focusing on improving the health conditions on the island. Additionally, plans include the implementation of a housing project, establishment of an additional school, and provision of a sports facility for the youth. The President affirmed his dedication to these initiatives, aligning with the government's objectives to enhance the overall development and well-being of Kelaa.
