Vashafaru land reclamation will commence this year: President

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the commencement of a land reclamation project in Vashafaru, Haa Alifu Atoll, starting this year. The President made this announcement during his visit to the north and meeting with the people of Vashafaru.

Addressing the gathering, the President emphasised the government's commitment to providing equal services, regardless of the size of the island. He further pledged to implement various projects in Vashafaru to contribute to its development.

Acknowledging the concerns raised by both the council and the residents, President Dr. Muizzu identified the pressing issue of land space in Vashafaru. Assuring a prompt resolution, he stated that the government would prioritise and initiate the land reclamation project within the current year.

With a population of approximately 900 people, Vashafaru faces a housing demand for around 160 individuals, as highlighted by the council. The President affirmed his commitment to addressing this housing shortage through the prioritised land reclamation project.

Additionally, President Dr. Muizzu outlined plans to establish a laboratory service at the island level, construct a multi-purpose hall at the school, and implement a modern waste management system in Vashafaru. He also expressed his intention to introduce income-generating services for the residents.

Acknowledging budget constraints, the President disclosed that the latest budget allocated limited funds for projects, potentially delaying their initiation by the year's end. However, he assured the inclusion of projects in the upcoming budget with sufficient funds for swift completion under the new government.
